(Penang, Thursday): DAP calls on the  government to investigate whether Malaysia through Cyberjaya hosts the website with the video of the gruesome and barbaric decapitation of American Nick Berg by Islamist terrorists and to be vigilant to ensure Malaysia does not gain international notoriety as centre of international terrorism.

Malaysiakini blogger Jeff Ooi in Screenshots mentioned that the website hosting the video of Berg’s beheading and murder was alleged to be tracerouted to a company residing in Cyberjaya, belonging to MYLOCA Cyberjaya Network Infrastructure, which is owned by Telekom Malaysia.

It has also been alleged that several other pro-al Qaeda websites have been tracerouted to the exact same source, “Acme Commerce”, Cheras-based and  known to own a business unit called Webserver.com.my, which boasts  of “managing over 150 servers for over 5,000 sites from over 45 countries”.

One of dozens of “terrorist websites all hosted by the same ISP in Malaysia” is Qoqaz.com  Qoqaz (means Caucus in Arabic) is devoted to jihad in Chechnya.

After the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, there was a time when Malaysia was accused in international circles as a launching pad for international terrorism associated with al-Qaeda and Jemaah Islamiah, and Malaysians traveling abroad were looked askance as putative terrorists.

It was only  with great difficulty that Malaysia was able to clear the country’s name internationally of such dubious associations and connotations, and it is imperative that the government act promptly and decisively to get to the bottom of the serious allegation that Malaysia is hosting a master network of international terrorist websites, including the one with the horrendous images of Berg’s decapitation.

In this connection, the Malaysian government, which had condemned the American torture, abuse and humiliation of Iraqi prisoners, should come out as strongly in denouncing the savage and barbaric decapitation of Berg.
