Mohamad Khir should apologise for his "blooshed" warning before making any further statement

Media Statement
by Lim Kit Siang

(Petaling Jaya, Sunday): The new Selangor Mentri Besar, Datuk Mohamad Khir Toyo has been criticised by Mingguan Malaysia for "talking too much".

"BISIK-BISIK MINGGUAN - AWANG SULUNG" under the column "LEBIH ELOK DIAM BERISI" commented:

Mohamad Khir should heed the good advice being given free by Awang Sulung, although the mass media must also ask itself why it should continue to give prominence or even publish statements and speeches  "tidak berisi" by national and state officials as if  they are gems of wisdom first discovered by humanity.

Similarly, Mohamad Khir should heed good advice from the Opposition. Before he makes any more statements, he should  withdraw and apologise for his "bloodshed" threat in his  first press conference the previous  Saturday on 20th August 2000, when  totally without  cause or  provocation, he talked about   UMNO’s preparedness to "make any sacrifice, even bloodshed" to protect Malay special rights.

His "bloodshed" statement has raised the question whether  Mohamad Khir wants to be a Mentri Besar of peace, harmony and  unity of the diverse races, religions and cultures in Selangor  or a Mentri Besar for confrontation, violence and bloodshed.

So long as Mohamad Khir does not withdraw and apologise for his "bloodshed" statement to show that he is humble and  capable of admitting his mistakes, his suitability and qualification to be the head of government for all races, religions and cultures in Selangor is under suspect.
