Let all Malaysians resolve in the 1999 Hari Raya Aidilfitri that injustice shall not be the new national symbol of Malaysia

Hari Raya Aidilfitri Message
by Lim Kit Siang

(Petaling Jaya, Monday): DAP wishes all Muslim Malaysians Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri.  Malaysians will be marking this year’s Hari Raya in a very sombre atmosphere, as they have been plunged into an unprecedented triple crisis - political, economic and moral.

Ironically, the moral crisis of the country had been precipitated by the public prosecutors in the 46-day trial of former Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, by giving Malaysians of all ages the most public  crash course in sex education never even attempted in the most "decadent" Western countries.

The moral crisis has been compounded by the abandonment of this course of action by the public prosecutors at the close of the prosecution case, amending the corruption charges against Anwar and causing the High Court Justice Augustine Paul to expunge may be as much as half of the 46-day trial proceedings as irrelevant - which also denied Anwar the opportunity to clear his name nationally and internationally after it had been smeared and sullied for more than three months.

There is rampant injustice in Malaysia today - which is vividly illustrated by two Malaysians who could not be with their families, Anwar Ibrahim and Lim Guan Eng.

In the final year to the new millennium, nothing is more important than for  Malaysians to take sure and steady  steps to overcome the triple political, economic and moral crisis with all Malaysians making a common national resolve during Hari Raya Aidilfitri that injustice shall not be the new national symbol of Malaysia, that Malaysia shall never be identified internationally as a nation of injustice!
