Liong Sik should publicly apologise to Teresa Kok, women and  all Malaysians for Dr. Sua  Chong Keh’s insulting, offensive and sexist remark

Media Conference Statement
by Lim Kit Siang

(Penang,  Wednesday): I am shocked that the MCA Parliamentary candidate for Seputeh, Dr. Sua Chong Keh could make such an insulting, offensive and sexist attack on DAP Parliamentary candidate, Teresa Kok declaring that he "disposes of his business by standing up" while Teresa had to "dispose of her business by squatting".

Dr. Sua Chong Keh had shamed not only Teresa Kok  but all womenhood in the country including his own mother by showing his utter contempt for women.

Dr. Sua Chong Keh boasts of a Ph.D. , but he clearly has another Ph.D. which stands for "Partial Head Damage", to be able to make such insulting, offensive and sexist remark about his woman competitor.

There are those who say that it would be understandable if such a sexist remark had been made by the  illiterate and uncouth - but I do not agree, as even the illiterate and uncouth would never make  such a shocking statement, as only those with partial head-damage could say such a thing!

The tenth general election is supposed to the Year for  Malaysian Women with women taking their rightful place in national and state levels of the political process, but Dr. Sua Chong Keh’s sexist remark shows that the MCA and Barisan Nasional are not serious about wanting to uplift the political role of women in Malaysia.

Dr. Sua Chong Ken is probably not the only isolated case of the "male chauvinist pig" in the MCA and Barisan Nasional list of candidates - who pretend to appreciate women’s role but actually have utter contempt for women.

It highlights the real character and calibre of MCA candidates and how flawed is the MCA and Barisan Nasional candidature selection process.

I call on MCA President, Datuk Seri Dr. Ling Liong Sik to publicly apologise to Malaysians and all women for  Dr. Sua Chong Ken’s sexist remark and for selecting such a person to be a MCA candidate.  DAP also demands that Liong Sik  personally apologise to  Teresa Kok for Dr. Sua Chong Ken’s sexist remark against her.
