Liong Sik should tell and disclose all in connection with John Soh’s allegations against him, his wife Ena Lim and Hee Leong to show that he is really converted to the cause of transparency

(Petaling Jaya,  Thursday): MCA President and Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Ling Liong Sik said yesterday that recent disclosures on the "alleged misdeeds" of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim "showed transparency was alive and well in the country".

He said transparency was what the Opposition had been clamouring for all this while.

He said: "Everyone wants transparency, transparency…this is transparency when everything is disclosed and everyone knows from A to Z".

Malaysians must be very touched that Liong Sik seems to be finally converted to the cause of transparency.

Let us leave aside for the moment  the statutory declaration by former Bank Negara assistant governor,  Datuk Abdul Murad Khalid alleging the Anwar had amassed a fortune of RM3 billion while in government through over 20 "Master Accounts", as it is full of holes raising questions about its veracity and reliability.

As Liong Sik has become a recent convert to the cause of transparency, let Liong Sik disclose everything from A to Z as to how his son,  Ling Hee Leong, could at the age of 27 embark on corporate acquisitions exceeding RM1.2 billion in a matter of  three months and whether there had been improper use and influence of his  political and Ministerial position.

In June 1997, I had lodged a police report with Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) asking it to investigate into Hee Leong’s four corporate acquisitions in three months in the last quarter of 1996, namely RM52 million of Red Box in September 96,  RM568 million of Berjaya Industrial, RM350 million of Promet and RM314.5 million of Kelenamas all  in December 96 - totalling  RM1,284.5 million - and whether there had been any improper use and influence of Liong Sik’s  political and Ministerial position.

At that time, the ACA immediately set up an investigation team to start investigations, but more than two years have passed and there had been  no word from the ACA as to what it had found.

As Liong Sik has become a new convert to the cause of transparency, there is no need for him to wait for the outcome of ACA investigations to show his transparency.

He should tell and disclose all, from A to Z, about the police report which had been lodged by his former protégé in MCA, John Soh Chee Wen in 1998 as to their bargain: -  that Soh,  one of the most "aggressive" deal hunters in the Malaysian corporate scene until he absconded abroad and became a fugitive from justice, would take Hee Leong under his wings and propel him into the corporate scene while Liong Sik would appoint him to the MCA Presidential Council and the Central Committee.

Liong Sik should also respond to all the allegations which John Soh had made naming numerous personalities including him, his wife, Datin Seri Ena Ling, Hee Leong, Datuk Ong Ka Ting,  Datuk Tony Tiah, ; numerous corporations and deals including Red Box (M) Berhad, Stellar Links Sdn. Bhd., Linksun Avenue Sdn. Bhd,  Reka Pacific Bhd., the Uniphoenix Corporation Bhd. deal, Rashid Hussein Equities Sdn. Bhd.

As the latest convert to the cause of transparency, I suggest that Liong Sik convene a special media conference to tell and disclose everything in connection with all the allegations that had been made by John Soh against him, and I would be delighted to attend such a Tell-And-Disclose-All Conference by Liong Sik.
