(Petaling Jaya, Monday): DAP deplores the United States missile strikes on alleged terrorist targets in Sudan and Afghanistan and calls for urgent UN Security Council meeting on the issue on the wanton violation of the independence and sovereignty of Sudan and Afghanistan by the United States.

DAP supports the Malaysian Government’s stand in joining member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Conference in supporting Sudan’s request for a special meeting of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the issue.

However, the Malaysian position would have been stronger if  the government had condemned the two terrorist attacks on August 7 when two bombs exploded at the U.S. embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, killing 247 people in Kenya and 10 in Tanzania. More than 5,500 people were injured, mostly Kenyans.

While condemning the US missile strikes into Sudan and Afghanistan territory, the Malaysian government must take a strong and unequivocal stand to condemn acts of terrorism like the two bombs at the US embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam early this month.
