Police should clarify whether it has arrested other Anwar supporters under the Internal Security Act

Media Statement
by Lim Kit Siang

(Petaling Jaya, Thursday): The Sun reported that a cousin of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Zulkifli Saad, has been arrested and is believed to be held under the Internal Security Act.

The police has so far not confirmed whether there have been five other ISA arrests of Anwar’s supporters, including  expelled UMNO Youth members, Lokman Nor Adam,  Khir Md Noor and Shariffudin Budin, who are believed to have been arrested under the ISA on Oct. 21.

Malaysia must never take on any characteristics of a police state where a person can disappear from society as a result of police arrests which do not have to be publicly accounted for, and for this reason, the Police should publicly announce all persons it has arrested under the ISA giving reasons for their arrests.
