DAP welcomes formation of ADIL which will be a positive force for the promotion of human rights and democratic reforms

Media Statement
by Lim Kit Siang

(Petaling Jaya, Friday): DAP welcomes the formation of the  Social Justice Movement, or Adil for short, with Datin Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, wife of  former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the president of its pro-tem committee, as it will be a positive force for the promotion of human rights and democratic reforms.

Among the objectives of the movement are to ensure every citizen enjoys  real and meaningful freedom; to ensure that justice is enjoyed by every   group; to establish legal and judicial institutions that are independent, transparent and embody integrity; to strengthen a Malaysian national identity and create a Malaysian culture that is dynamic and progressive; and to strengthen further the tradition of goodwill, understanding and  co-operation among the various communities.

The DAP is prepared to fully co-operate with Adil as well as all organisations, both political and non-political, at this critical juncture in the country’s development to strengthen and revive the institutions of democracy, human rights and the rule of law before they suffer irreparabe damage in the run-up to the new millennium.
